Does God Get to Define Who I Am?
Who gets to determine what your life should look like—you or God?
We live in a culture that places a high value on personal autonomy: my life, my body, my truth, my identity, my choice. But following Jesus begins with a radically different declaration:
I belong to Jesus.
In 1 Corinthians 11:1–16, Paul addresses one of the more challenging passages in the New Testament—authority, men and women, head coverings, submission, and God’s created order.
But underneath the cultural questions is a much deeper question for every follower of Jesus:
Will I submit my preferences to God’s design?
In this message from our Christlike in a Christless Culture series, Pastor Anthony explores what biblical order actually looks like when everything begins with Jesus.
God’s order begins with Christ.
Every believer lives under the authority of Jesus.
God’s design includes distinction.
Equal dignity does not require identical design.
God’s design creates interdependence.
God’s order doesn’t create superiority; it creates responsibility.
God’s design should be visible in how we live.
Our lives should reveal something about the God we belong to.
Jesus shows us what biblical authority and submission were always intended to look like. He possesses authority and serves. He possesses power and sacrifices. He is Lord and washes feet. Pasted markdown
The goal isn't to win a cultural argument.
The goal is to imitate Christ.
Because God’s design isn’t meant to restrict us; it’s meant to reveal Him through us. Pasted markdown
